How remote job seekers can land a fully remote job much faster and easier
We brought back digital nomad and remote job expert Michelle Coulson. She is the founder of Remote Rebellion and helps remote job seekers land a remote job. In a past life, Michelle worked as a recruiter for over 9 years and when her company called her back into the office – she quit!
Michelle didn’t give up and decided to share her skills and experiences as a recruiter to help remote job seekers find a fully remote job so they can live their dream lifestyle. She shared in episode 53 how remote job seekers can create a winning CV resume and in this episode she is sharing more tips on where to find remote jobs, tips to apply and really stand out from other remote job seekers.
Where to find fully remote jobs for digital nomads
With so many fake remote jobs out there it’s really time-consuming and frustrating to know what jobs are actually fully remote and which you should apply for. Even more annoying, companies tend to attract talent by saying it’s fully remote but often you are still required to go into the office so we asked Michelle what the different types of remote jobs are.
Hybrid remote
This means being forced to go into an office a week once a month. These jobs aren’t suitable for traveling digital nomads but are often posted as remote jobs.
Fully remote / work from home
You might think that this is the right job but when you read fully remote jobs you might not have to go back to the office but often companies specify the location. While this is remote work, this isn’t the right fit for digital nomads because you are not allowed to work outside the required location. This could be a city, state, country or continent.
100% Work From Anywhere (WFA)
These are the golden nuggets for digital nomads because work from anywhere doesn’t specify where you need to conduct your work – and anywhere means ANYWHERE! So when you are a digital nomad remote job seeker this is the type of job you want to focus on.
Tips to find Work From Anywhere jobs for digital nomads
Now that you know which jobs you can focus on the next step is to actually find those jobs. When you follow Michelle on LinkedIn, you will see that she occasionally calls companies out if they posted ‘’fake’’ remote job posts. So instead of scrolling through LinkedIn and constantly getting disappointed Michelle has a view of top tips to find work from anywhere remote jobs
😎 List down companies that work from anywhere and that you are interested in joining. If they don’t have any job openings you can send out an open application that you are interested in the company and would love to know when something opens up
😎 Immerse yourself in the remote world. The LinkedIn algorithm is clever and you need to make that algorithm in your favor. You also want to do this because by surrounding yourself with the right people who have similar beliefs, values and interests it’s more likely that you find the job and have more fun in the process.
You’re better off putting your energy and efforts into companies who get it already so you don’t have to convince them.
😎 Set up job alerts on job boards that offer work from anywhere job opportunities or in your industry that have a filter for remote. Rather than look at the traditional job boards.
😎 Find the people who are interviewing you and find some common ground. This could be as little as you both have cats or grew up in the same location. Be discrete though because you want this person to think you stalked them but it could bring the difference between you are someone going to the next interview round.
How long does it take to find a remote job
Michelle shares that this very much depends on the journey of each individual. She helps people find jobs faster and eases up the process but she simply cannot promise a specific time. Some of her students found a job within 2-3 weeks and others took 6 months because they for example applied for fewer jobs or the market was slow.
