Digital nomads move around and the change of locations isn’t always the best ingredient for strong routines. So digital nomads and remote workers need to pay attention to their morning routine to ensure they feel motivated and focused daily. This doesn’t happen overnight but through neuroscience-based hacks, tools, and tips, anyone can change their state when needed and make the best out of their day from anywhere.

5 tips on how digital nomads can increase their focus

Angela works with a powerful morning formula that includes 3 different elements to focus on. The power morning formula’s main purpose is to instruct you every single day for top performance, empowering the right mindset, and reinforcing beneficial habits. According to Angela, a productive morning consists of having 3 things:

  1. High levels of energy
  2. High levels of motivation
  3. High levels of focus

High levels of morning energy

The main key to having energy in the morning is a great night’s sleep. Three things to have in mind for the best quality and restorative sleep that Angela shares are:

  • Maintaining a regular sleep makes the best nights. The more regular your sleeping schedule is, the easier it gets to fall asleep, and the more optimized your sleep becomes.
  • Get around 8 hours of sleep hours every night.
  • The essential hours of sleep are from 10 pm – 4 am.

Kick start the day with high levels of morning motivation

The higher your dopamine levels are, the more motivated you will feel every morning. Angela shares some tips to raise your dopamine in a natural and healthy way:

  • Exercise and moving your body in the morning stimulates dopamine. It doesn’t need to be a long run or a 1 hour at the gym. It can be a walk, stretches, yoga, or anything that feels right for you.
  • Try to get sunshine on your body every morning for at least 20 minutes.
  • Wake up your body with a cold shower. The colder and longer the shower is, the more dopamine your body creates. This is a great boost for your focus and keeps you awake.

Digital nomads need to boost their focus actively

It happens to everyone that sometimes our brains wander off while trying to work or complete a task. Before you realize it becomes impossible to pay attention to what’s important and it’s hard to get work done. In order to focus, Angela emphasizes having clear goals and limiting distractions. Here are 3 hacks:

  • Write down your goals for the day en define the meaning of done for the tasks you want to accomplish.
  • Get rid of distractions around you and work in a space that stimulates focus. Stunning views, people, pools and a messy desk aren’t the best for deep focus work.
  • Keep breathing and do breathing exercises to regain your focus.

The Importance of Using Time Wisely

In the digital nomad world, productivity and time management are two key components of a successful lifestyle. When you are always on the go and spending your time on your screen, you need to maximize your opportunities and exposure. Keep in mind that you don’t always have to be productive every day. It is okay to take a break – not doing anything is part of being productive too. If you don’t have pauses between your work, it may end up harming your results and health. Just ensure to keep going forward as small steps still matter. In this article, we suggest some time management methods and productivity tips for digital nomads and remote workers.

Time Management Methods

Managing your time wisely is important for digital nomads because the better you get at it, the more freedom you will have to do other things. So the first 3 productivity tips for digital nomads talk about time management. There are hundreds of studies about time management and increasing focus and productivity. We collect a couple of time management methods for digital nomads.

1. Time blocking

When juggling multiple responsibilities, your focus easily gets spread out too thin. You may get bombarded with meetings or struggle to find time and mental space for retrospect thinking.  Time blocking is a time management method that divides your day into periods of time. Each block is designated to achieve a task. At the end of a workday, review any incomplete and new tasks to adjust your time blocks for the rest of the week accordingly. It helps you accomplish urgent daily tasks – e.g. paperwork, responding to emails and phone calls and it pushes you to recognize how you spend your time.

2. The Most Important Task Method (MIT)

Overwhelm is a common problem for freelancers and entrepreneurs. There are so many things you need to do but your time is limited. Using the MIT method, you will focus on what is essential by prioritizing 1-3 tasks at the top of your to-do list. By completing your most important tasks every day, productivity will become a habit. For this to work, you will need to organize your work and have a plan in place so it requires some project management and organizational skills.

3. The Pomodoro Technique

This is a popular productivity hack for digital nomads. By breaking down a large task into manageable intervals, you create uninterrupted periods of focus. These moments are short, like 25 minutes, and basically fast bursts of work with breaks in between. During those 5-min breaks, you will move your body, drink a big glass of water or at least leave your chair. , then a break After every four Pomodoro cycles you will take a longer break to disconnect so you have fresh eyes on your next task.

Productivity Tips

Aside from the 3 time management tips, there are also productivity tips for digital nomads that are an absolute game changer. We talk more about this in the chapter for our book Digital Nomads With Confidence. We collected some of the best productivity tips for you below so you can have more freedom to explore the world.

The Power of Planning with Digital Nomads Anastasia & Tomer

4. Start your day with a morning routine

Wake up early and go through your morning routine as if you were commuting to the office. This will signal you to view your home environment as a workspace.

5. Embrace the outside and take your breaks there

The perks of a digital nomad lifestyle are that you can go outside and enjoy nature. Getting a taste of fresh air and hearing the chirping birds may help you recharge. Outdoor breaks can also help you reduce stress and this is a very important productivity tip for digital nomads.

6. Make the most out of online classes.

Participate in online training for professional development. You can find some for free on the web, or your company might offer some courses. These will help you develop new skills and advance your career.

7. Keep your work organized

Avoid cluttering as this can halt your work progress and overwhelm your workspace. Use storage apps and project management tools such as Asana to sort out important files and projects.

8. Prioritize your wellness

It is important to be physically active throughout the day, especially when you are constantly stagnant and staring at the screen. Ensure you are also getting sufficient sleep and doing your self-care activities. Being healthy can impact your work results and increase productivity.

9. Communicate effectively

Stay connected with your colleagues, friends, and families with the internet. Set aside some time at least once per week to communicate with them. When you are not working in person, it is imperative to express yourself clearly each day as there is no face-to-face interaction.

10. Designate a comfortable workspace

One of the most challenging productivity tips for digital nomads is to choose a workspace where you can minimize your distractions and conduct your tasks by not intervening with everyone else’s activities. Having a stress-free environment will allow you to deliver your best work performance.

11. Travel slow and stay longer in digital nomad locations

It will become increasingly challenging to reach a high level of productivity if you are constantly on the move. There are a lot of factors also to consider when you travel such as living costs, transport, places to visit, and more. Traveling slowly means you can allocate time to explore and enjoy different places while having enough time for work. Don’t lose your rhythm and routine especially when you’re trying to achieve productivity.

Learn to Cut Yourself Some Slack

People often think that productivity means you have to constantly keep working. This is false. You need to give yourself some breaks to recharge and refresh. Digital nomad Micaela shares on the podcast the importance of this as an entrepreneur living the digital nomad lifestyle. So the best and final productivity tip for digital nomads is not to be afraid to incorporate a small workout into your routine and to explore the outdoors – these will all boost your overall wellness, work performance, and motivation. 4 benefits of joining a co-working space

4 benefits of joining a co-working space

4 benefits of joining a co-working space

co-working-space

Co-working spaces are the answer if you are looking for an alternative work spot and need to get away from home. Co-working spaces have revolutionized and there are more than 18,700 co-working spaces around the world. In 2025 that number is expected to grow up to 26,000.

There are many benefits of joining a co-working space. It provides remote workers, digital nomads, small businesses, entrepreneurs, and also freelancers a place to work, feel part of a community, and network at the same time. In this article, you will find why it would benefit you to join, what to look for in a co-working space, and five things to keep in mind choosing your next work spot.

The benefits of joining a co-working space

Joining a co-working space opens new doors to endless opportunities. There are many ways you can benefit from signing up! But we have collected the four top benefits for digital nomads:

Opportunities to grow your network.

This is probably one of the most important benefits of joining a co-working space, as you can connect with other professionals from all types of industries. It allows getting your name out in the open and connecting with potential clients.

On The Digital Nomads Daily Podcast, Kenny shares that he met like-minded people, creative people, and even his business partner in a co-working space in Bali. A co-working space is a must-have membership for many digital nomads. Listen to the full episode with Kenny here

Increase your productivity.

Working from home or a cafe isn’t always “meant to be” and can create situations where you are easily distracted. A co-working space can solve that issue the moment you’re entering the space as there is an energy of “work mode” on. So with fewer distractions, you can focus and get more work done.

Cost-efficiency

While the price of co-working subscriptions varies, it’s a smart investment for yourself and your business. Often, these subscriptions are flexible and you can pick something that meets your needs. It gets even more affordable when using Crossaint App. Instead of committing to one co-working space, you can visit all co-working spaces listed on the app with one simple subscription.

Sense of community

Sometimes working from home all day and having no one to interact with can make you feel lonely. Digital nomads, freelancers, and small business owners often face this and by joining a co-working space, you can easily solve this. Digital nomad Pat who’s an ex-employee of Selina and WeWork, also shares how incredible the community element is of co-working space on The Digital Nomads Daily Podcast in episode #16 The Future Of Digital Nomads With Pat

What to look for in a co-working space

With rising numbers of freelancers, digital nomads, and entrepreneurs, more co-working spaces are also popping up. With so many great co-working options available, it can be confusing to know what’s better for you or where even to start looking. Aside from the benefits of joining a co-working space, we want to share some things to keep in mind before joining one:

  • Location. Planning to go almost every day? Find something close to your area that has easy access by public transport or parking options. Nowadays, co-working spaces are the ideal spot, especially for digital nomads.
  • Amenities. Each co-working space has different amenities and some of these come with additional costs, like a phone booth. Make sure to research this beforehand so you know what to expect.
  • Facilities. Perhaps you’re interested in having a communal kitchen s you can bring your own meals or want to have different types of seats. Think about what you need and then find a space that can accommodate that.
  • Cost. Like we said before, it’s a wise investment but it comes with a price. So first, consider what membership works for you or use the Crossaint App for plenty of options.

5 essential etiquette tips for Co-working spaces

When using a co-working space, you must remember that it’s a communal space where others are working too. Here are some tips to make your stay the best possible and ensure you respect everyone around you.

  1. Don’t be noisy. Each co-working space is different. Some have communal spaces to have meetings, silence booths, and areas to chill and relax. Make sure you realize how other people are using these spaces and not to bother anyone. People, for the most part, are there to work, and they won’t appreciate people making unnecessary noise.
  2. Clean after yourself and the area you have used. After you leave, more people will use that spot. So, clean after yourself and don’t leave any rubbish or cups around.
  3. Be organized. Try not to occupy other people’s spaces when you work at a long table or shared desk.
  4. If you need anything, ask. It’s expected that when you get there, there are things you don’t know. They will be happy to help you and guide you through the space and all the facilities and amenities that the place has.
  5. Experiment with the space. Most co-working spaces have many different areas with different “vibes.” Try them out, move to other spots, see what works best for you, and you get the chance to meet with more people.

Don’t be afraid to try something new.

Keep in mind that any type of membership is not forever and you will have to discover what works for you best. It’s good to try new things, visit different places and meet new people. Actively connect with others and join the events so it’s easier to get to know the people you share your office with. Tools we use at Digital Nomads Daily every day

Nienke Nina Founder of Digital Nomads Daily about collaboration tools for remote work and hybrid teams

Working remotely from anywhere is a dream for many people. Besides thinking about your next adventure and finding a place to live, how you successfully conduct your work remotely will also need some attention. One of the questions we like to ask on The Digital Nomads Daily Podcast is what tools for digital nomads and entrepreneurs are best to get work done. In this article, we will show you the top tools we use at Digital Nomads Daily every day.

Each tool has its own genius and purpose of making work easier or more efficient. For online businesses, these tools are basically the virtual office where your team communicates, collaborates and completes the work. While many tools offer free plans, you’ll have to accept some costs. The price of each tool varies but adding this all up, the expenses can become a burden, especially for small business owners, freelancers and starting entrepreneurs. This is something many digital nomads face and is why it’s important to ensure you only get the tools you really need. See below the tools we use every day at Digital Nomads Daily to make our virtual office run smooth for the whole team.

Managing projects, tasks and collaborating in Asana

At Digital Nomads Daily, we like to keep things as organized as possible and we host all our projects, tasks and ideas in Asana. Asana is a work management tool that is great for solopreneurs and freelancers, small teams and large organizations. With so many moving parts from small marketing tasks to creating new products like our book Digital Nomads With Confidence or ongoing initiatives like The Digital Nomads Daily Podcast, staying on track can be overwhelming. We love the clean interface and it’s one of the best tools for digital nomads.

Asana offers a free plan, making this the perfect tool for our small team.

Brainstorming new ideas with Miro – the best virtual whiteboard

Remote teams that would like to brainstorm new ideas with team members or map out workflows should definitely use Miro. It’s a visual collaboration platform that basically looks like a virtual whiteboard and is ideal for teams to work together from anywhere. It’s the most visual problem-solving tool for digital nomads and is used by marketing teams, sales teams, designers and even team leaders of larger organizations. Miro is your companion to problem-solve digitally.

Miro offers a free plan ideal for digital nomads and small teams.

Sending emails and building a list of subscribers with Mailterlite

Building an email list is important for every business but aside from that, we love sharing tips about the digital nomad lifestyle with our community. We use Mailerlite and this is an affordable email marketing software. It’s very easy to use and we mainly use it to send out our weekly newsletter and updates about our upcoming events, like the launch of our book Digital Nomads With Confidence.

While Mailerlite offers a free plan, we use the paid plan. When you are just starting out the free plan is a good option, although if you want to send emails without the Mailerlite branding, you might want to consider upgrading to the paid plan.

Adding content to our website easily using WordPress and Divi Themes

Our website is built with WordPress and we use a front-end building called Divi Themes. Every week we add new articles about the digital nomad lifestyle and show notes from the newest Digital Nomads Daily Podcast episodes to our website. Divi Themes is very affordable and when it comes to websites a great tool for digital nomads with a tight budget. It’s easy to use and everyone in our team can add new content to the website easily.

Publishing every week a new episode on the Digital Nomads Daily Podcast using Buzzsprout

If you haven’t listened yet but are interested in the digital nomad lifestyle and learning how other digital nomads are successful, make sure to tune in on the Digital Nomads Daily Podcast! We host our podcast on Buzzsprout and using the paid plan as our podcast is a long-term initiative. The plans are very affordable and the tool is super easy to use. There are also a lot of explainer videos and supporting articles which are great when you’re just starting out.

The first 90 days are free but make sure to upgrade because otherwise your episodes will be deleted.

Creating documents and assets stored inside the Google Workspace

At Digital Nomads Daily, we have a policy that all documents are created and stored in the cloud. This means that it should never live on someone’s computer. The reason is pretty simple – derisking the company. Small disasters like coffee on your laptop or even worse, a stolen device can happen easily in the digital nomad lifestyle. So each team member always uses the tools in the Google Workspace so we all have access at any time from any device. Think about Docs, Spreadsheets, Drive, Email, Calendar, and more tools we use to create and collaborate.

This is a paid tool but very affordable and a must-have tool for digital nomads, freelancers, and business owners.

Providing clear instructions and building a library of ‘‘how-to videos’’ using Vimeo

We found that one of the best ways to explain how a task should be completed or show a process is using a screen recording. It saves a lot of time as you don’t have to write a whole process and it’s an easier way of learning because it’s visual. Another benefit for us is that our team can complete the task without having to wait for instructions so everyone can keep their own work schedule. On top of that, we have now built a library of ‘‘How to do XYZ’’ videos and can easily onboard a new team member.

A popular tool is Loom and while we used Loom in the past, we recently switched to Vimeo. We already had a paid plan at Vimeo to house our videos and when they introduced the screen sharing feature, it didn’t make sense to also pay for Loom. We leveraged a tool we were already using and it saved us around 120 USD a year.

The best tool for digital nomads to design creative work with Canva

The last tool we use on a daily basis is the #1 creative tool, Canva. Inside this tool, you can create all sorts of digital creative work from social media post templates, the podcast cover photo, and also short video formats like Instagram Reels.

Canva offers a free plan but at Digital Nomads Daily we use the paid plan as it gives more edit options. It’s around 10USD a month per user and definitely worth it for our online business.

When you are starting an online business, even when you are a digital nomad freelancer, there are some tools you definitely want to use. These are just a couple of the top tools we use every single day and other tools we use are:

  • Calendly to easily schedule meetings without emailing back and forward finding the right time
  • Spotify to enjoy tunes and podcasts – make sure to check out The Digital Nomads Daily Podcast
  • Zoom and Skype for meetings and calls.
  • Notion to store non-collaborative information that’s easily accessible for the team like our how-to video library
  • Adobe Creative Suit PremierePro, Photoshop, and Illustrator for advanced edits

The total cost of tools is around 100 USD a month and that’s pretty low for a small business. Our advice is to research which tools can make your remote work life easier, more efficient, or reduce errors and risks. If the tool is saving you a decent amount of time, we definitely recommend getting the tool because you can use that time to make money or connect with new potential clients.

Tips for becoming a freelance website designer

Tips for becoming a freelance website designer

Tips for becoming a freelance website designer

Meet Chels, a website designer who started her freelance career about 3.5 years ago. She loves traveling and spending her days in nature and off-grid areas. We talked with Chels on the Digital Nomads Daily Podcast about her digital nomad van life. Chels joined once again the podcast to chat about what it takes to become a freelance website designer, listen to the full episode here. This article covers what we talked about on the podcast, providing you the most valuable takeaways. We would love for you to tune in and listen to the full episode and learn how to become a successful freelancer.

The perfect balance between design and strategic thinking

Creating a website is so much more than just making it pretty. As a website designer, Chels helps her clients beyond making beautiful websites. She helps her clients with branding, strategy and Search Engine optimization. Having the branch between the two, design and strategic thinking, is what she loves most about being a traveling website designer. She is living her dream life traveling the world and working in a van. Learn more about her vanlife here on her first episode on the Digital Nomads Daily Podcast.

The skills to becoming a freelance website designer

A feeling for design and branding is a must as a website designer. When talking about the necessary skills, Chels shares that time management is critical. In the first year of business this was partially challenging and looking back she realized she barely took a day off. This is common for all freelancers regardless of your field. Managing your time means understanding your workload, taking days off to recharge and constantly being aware of when to push it and relax.

Chels also shares that she developed the skill to be a chameleon. As a creative freelancer, she had to learn how to understand clients, know what is inside their heads and how to adapt to different clients’ needs.

Like creative entrepreneurs Tiff and Micaela both shared on the podcast, it’s important to be a good communicator. Not only with your prospects and clients but also with the people you work with.

Daily tools Chels used for her traveling website design business

As a website designer, some creative tools are obvious and Chels works mostly used Adobe XD for website designs and Canva for brand assets. There are many website platforms like Wix, Elementor and Divi. Chels prefers to work with only Squarespace and Showit. Another tool she loves is www.coolors.co to create the perfect color palettes.

Next to website tools, the other software she used are Trello to manage her projects and tasks. Trello is very similar to ClickUp, Monday.com and Asana and what is important is that you find a tool that works for you. She also used a screen recording tool called Loom and plans her work in Google Calendar.

Like every business owner and also freelancer, accounting is part of the game too. Chels doesn’t like doing accounting but has set a cadence for herself. She also works with accounting to make sure she is doing it correctly as this is something you don’t want to mess up. Chels also recommends having three accounts, one for income, one tax savings account and one account (if you have a lot of expenses) to track the expenses.

Tips to find clients for freelance website designers

One of the hardest things is to find clients regularly and everyone goes through this process. Chels shares a couple of helpful tips to find clients for your business

Find clients tip #01

Tell everyone what you are doing and share it across different platforms. This is especially important when you are starting out and don’t have many clients yet.

Find clients tip #02:

Don’t shy away and show your work so others can see what you have to offer. Whether it’s a portfolio or a paid project, the best way is to let other people experience your work so you create a connection.

Find clients tip #03

Promoting your business online aka ‘‘digital marketing’’ takes a lot of time. Another great way to find more clients is through referred programs and this has been working really well for Chels. For every new client referred by an existing client, the existing client gets a so-called kickback. This basically means that the existing clients get a commission for everything (s)he brings new customers to your business

Find clients tip #04

Connecting with other freelancers across different industries is another way to expand your network. Find people who you can collaborate with by joining online groups and events. Remember that these type of collaborations is about adding value so be patient and join groups to give first before promoting yourself.

How much can you earn as a freelance website designer?

Chels started her freelance website design career making around 300 USD for a custom design website. Many freelancers who are building a portfolio and gaining experience start at a lower price point. Throughout her career, she gained more knowledge, and experience and has built a strong portfolio which allows her to charge more over time. Today a custom website design and build would be around 4000 USD.

Everyone can become a successful freelance website designer

To be successful every day the biggest challenge is to show up every day and stick to it. Especially in the beginning of her freelance career, it was challenging but as she got more experience and found more clients, her confidence increased.

The life of a freelancer knows many ups and downs but once you found your passion and the right clients is beyond rewarding. Chels wishes she started earlier and we totally get it. Listen to the full conversation for more tips and inspiration here or head straight to Spotify.

Remote Work: An Emerging Digital, Productive, and Enjoyable Lifestyle

Remote Work: An Emerging Digital, Productive, and Enjoyable Lifestyle

Remote Work: An Emerging Digital, Productive, and Enjoyable Lifestyle

Remote work is a working style concept that occurs beyond the traditional office space. Essentially, individuals can conduct their work anywhere within the world; there is no designated environment.

Visualize this: skip the extensive commute and heavy 9-5 work hours, and take your work wherever you desire. This includes working from home, cafes, coworking spaces, and more. If you’re working from home, you can maximize your break times by going for a run or doing a short yoga session. Essentially, people benefit from customizing their work schedules by combining their professional and personal lives.

A cultural shift has occurred in which society has constructed new norms. People now believe that an appropriate workplace has no limits. Remote work provides people the freedom to build their definition of their working space.

Image-of-article-by-digital-nomads-daily-about-remote-work-and-benefits-of-working-remotely

Seven Benefits of Remote Work

Hybrid option: Commute to in-person meetings once a week and work remotely for the rest of the week. Some companies offer this type of work. But, always read the description because companies might appear “remote” when they’re not.

Pro tip: when searching for these jobs on LinkedIn, pay attention to your filter. Go to filter → , click on-site → , select “remote” and/or “hybrid.”

Location flexibility: Employees can either work from home or work remotely in a new place every day.

New perspectives and connections: You can expand your professional network and achieve a global understanding through traveling as you are constantly exposed to new people.

Gaining back time: No more time is wasted on commuting. Instead, you can go for a walk during your breaks and spend more time with your family. Also, some companies offer commuting compensation, or you can negotiate for office supplies at home.

Passion is revived for the job: When employees work at different places such as cafes, coworking spaces, or have a travel lifestyle (digital nomads), they are motivated to sustain this lifestyle they’re comfortable with.

Better wellbeing: Commuting leads to stress. Hence, eliminating commute also decreases stress as remote workers are posited the ability to work wherever and whenever they please. Happier and healthier employees result in more productive work and motivation towards their companies.

Adaptable lifestyle: Can simultaneously focus on personal matters and pursue further education at the same time. Parents could also balance their time with children and work.

The Different Types of Remote Workers

At digital nomads daily, we identified and described three main types of remote workers: the remote worker, the remote freelancer, and the remote entrepreneur. It is imperative to choose the right job that fits your remote lifestyle. We provide its differences for you to choose wisely.  Choose the right job that fits your remote lifestyle.

The Remote Worker

What differentiates the remote worker from the other types is that it comes with fixed salaries, company benefits, and stability. Even if the work is remote, work schedules are not always flexible. It depends on the job and the company’s policies.

The Remote Freelancer

Freelancers don’t stick to a fixed job as they work with multiple clients and get assigned various projects. Companies hire them depending on the skillset or specific services they offer. While their schedules can be more flexible, their admin time can rise. Acquiring those clients is not an easy task, and it can be very unpredictable.

The Remote Entrepreneur

If you go remote, you need to lock in investment and a solid business plan. There may be a lot of flexibility and freedom when running your own online business, but it comes with endless hard work on the clock. Ensure that going remote will be the best lifestyle for your business.

On our Remote Jobs page, you can find an overview of all kinds of remote jobs and the skills needed for the job. We also interview digital nomads on our podcast and answer many common questions surrounding the nomad lifestyle.
